Don’t Spill Your Coffee
Last month I was scheduled to do a basic lighting seminar at the Henrys Photo and Video show and I wanted to do something a little different. Usually I show how to shoot a portrait with 2-3 lights. It’s interesting but very limited for the real world, after all how many people have a stable of beautiful models?
So the night before the show I went looking for the elements of something interesting. The goal was to shoot ball bearings in milk. At this point you may ask...WHY? Well I don’t have an answer. Sometimes my mind works like a laptop that just received an unexpected visit of coffee. Thing just seem to happen and well....
So I know I need 3 elements, 1 is milk (easy), 2 is ball bearings (not easy) and the third is a white / low dish (impossible).
First stop is Home Depot. I quickly find out that they don’t sell ball bearings so without to much trouble I find some silver kitchen cabinet door handles that will do.
Next it’s Home Sense for the dish. Well I learned 2 things about Home Sense in my hour long venture. First was the dish doesn’t exist and 2nd that I was the only male in the whole store. So I did what any man would do and that was to go to Canadian Tire.
And yes I found what I needed. In the continuation of my warped world the dish I was looking for turned out to be the lid off a storage box. (long pause) ..........Yes I often scare myself.
The final issue was the following day as it occurred to me that milk has the tendency to sourer when warm. Solved that issue with the local food vendor and with that I was finally able to create some images.
